28-year-old Chinese national was detained by Sri Lankan immigration officials at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) over suspected links to an international cyber financial fraud network
The individual, who arrived carrying a large number of electronic devices, raised suspicions during screening by the Immigration and Emigration Department’s Border Surveillance Unit. During questioning, he reportedly claimed he was in Sri Lanka to meet a well-known local businessman involved in the stock market.
Further interrogation reportedly revealed possible ties to a global cyber financial fraud ring. Authorities subsequently took steps to deport the suspect and handed him over to SriLankan Airlines for return to his country. (Newswire)
