Former Cabinet Minister P. Dayaratna, who represented the Ampara electorate for nearly four decades and held several key portfolios including health, planning implementation and state resources, has died at the age of 89.

Dayaratna began his parliamentary career representing Ampara in 1977 and was re-elected in successive terms.
