Multiple fatalities reported in road accidents across Sri Lanka

Several people were killed in a series of road accidents and other incidents reported across Sri Lanka on January 3, police said.
In the Marawila police area, a 28-year-old motorcyclist died after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a gatepost while travelling from Thisserapura toward Adappara junction. The pillion rider was injured and admitted to hospital.
In the Meegahathenna police area, an 84-year-old cyclist died after being struck by a motorcycle on the Pelawatte–Horawala road. Both the cyclist and motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and were transferred to Nagoda Hospital, where the cyclist later succumbed to his injuries.
In Nochchiyagama, a 52-year-old man died following a head-on collision between two motorcycles on the Nochchiyagama–Thalgaswewa road. One rider was transferred to Anuradhapura Hospital for further treatment but later died.
In Kesbewa, a 52-year-old woman was killed after being struck by a cab while crossing the Horana–Kesbewa road. The driver of the cab has been arrested.
In Beruwala, a 26-year-old motorcyclist died after his motorcycle veered off the road and crashed into a wall near St. Anne’s Road.
Separately, in Rakwana, an unidentified man collapsed near Collins Road junction and died after being admitted to Kahawatte Hospital. Police said no visible external injuries were found, and investigations are continuing to establish his identity and cause of death.
In Nochchiyagama, a 67-year-old man drowned while bathing in the Seerambagama tank. His body has been placed at the Nochchiyagama Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
In Monaragala, a 55-year-old man died after falling from his motorcycle following a crash in the Hulandawa area. Police are investigating whether the death was caused by a road accident or other circumstances.
All incidents are under investigation by the respective police stations. (Newswire)
