7 years on, justice still denied for Easter victims — Sajith

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa says justice for the victims of the 2019 Sri Lanka Easter Sunday attacks remains a fundamental responsibility of the state, noting that seven years on, both past and present governments have failed to deliver accountability.

In his Easter message issued today (April 5), Premadasa said Easter represents hope, renewal and new beginnings, but the painful memories of the suicide bombings targeting churches and hotels across Sri Lanka continue to linger.

He said it is a grave failure as a nation that justice has not yet been delivered to those killed, injured and affected by the April 21, 2019 attacks.

Premadasa stressed that uncovering the truth and ensuring justice cannot be avoided, adding that upholding the rule of law, accountability and transparency is essential in fulfilling this responsibility.

He further said that building a society grounded in trust and peace, uniting all ethnicities, religions and communities, is vital to ensure such tragedies do not occur again.

The Opposition Leader called on the public to use Easter as a moment to honour the victims and renew the collective commitment to truth, justice, peace and unity.  (Newswire)
