Police say a 21-year-old youth was reported dead in a tragic road accident that occurred around midday yesterday (25) on the A09 highway within the Chavakachcheri Police Division.

According to the Police, the accident took place near the 304 km marker when a motorcycle travelling from Chavakachcheri toward Jaffna attempted to overtake a tipper truck and collided head-on with another motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.

Both riders, a young man and a young woman, were injured and admitted to Chavakachcheri Hospital. 

The rider of one motorcycle, a 21-year-old resident of Meesalai, succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to the hospital.

The Chavakachcheri Police are conducting further investigations into the incident. (Newswire)
