A 13-year-old child has been reported dead after being knocked down by a lorry in the Udawalawa area on Sunday.

According to the Police, the lorry travelling towards Thanamalwila had hit the child who was walking by the side of the road. 

The child who had sustained serious injuries in the accident had been rushed to the Udawalawa Hospital, but succumbed to injuries.

The deceased has been identified as a resident of Udawalawa. 

The driver of the lorry has been taken into Police custody, while the Udawalawa Police is conducting further investigations. (Newswire)
