The Department of Meteorology has warned that the heat index—the temperature felt on the human body—is expected to rise to the “Caution level” in parts of the Northern, North-Central and Eastern provinces, as well as in Monaragala and Hambantota districts.

Authorities have advised the public to take necessary precautions:

• Job sites: Stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in the shade.
• Indoors: Check on the elderly and those who are ill.
• Vehicles: Never leave children unattended.
• Outdoors: Limit strenuous activity, seek shade and drink water regularly.
• Dress: Wear light-colored, lightweight clothing.
